Lawrence Thackeray - Tenor

Biography

Mancunian tenor Lawrence Thackeray graduated from the Opera Course at The Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 2015 after having originally trained in acting at The University of Salford before studying Musical Theatre for a year at The Royal Academy of Music. He then made the change to Opera in 2010 and studied classical singing at The D.I.T Conservatory of Music in Dublin before moving to London in 2013.

Lawrence’s Operatic career has so far seen him perform the roles of Rodolfo (La Boheme), Alfredo (La Traviata), Tamino (The Magic Flute), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), Peter Quint (The Turn of the Screw), Ruggero (La Rondine), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), Don Jose (Carmen), Fox (Vixen), Gonsalve (L’heure Espagnole), Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus) Guido (Eine florentinische Tragödie), Mr. Rushworth (Mansfield Park) and Don Basillio (Le Nozze di Figaro) amongst others. Companies worked for include Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Opera North, Wexford Festival Opera, Garsington Opera, Grange Park Opera, Pavillion Opera, Silent Opera, Opera Ireland, Bergen National Opera Norway, Opera Theatre Company, Lyric Opera Productions, Clonter Opera and The Merry Opera Company.

Soloist performances on the Oratorio stage have included Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, Britten’s Saint Nicholas, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Handel’s The Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Gounod’s St. Cecilia Masse, Goodhall’s Eternal Light, O Casaide’s Requiem Marbhna, Handel’s Dixit Dominus, Haydn’s Stabat Mater, The Seasons and Theresienmesse.

Concert performances have seen Lawrence perform as a soloist at The Barbican Hall, LSO St Luke’s, The National Concert Hall in Dublin, Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo, St James’ Piccadilly, Colston Hall in Bristol, St James’ Cathedral Toronto, The Savoy Hotel, The Ritz and aboard Swan Hellenic’s Minerva.

This season’s engagements include Fox in Vixen for Silent Opera in Trento, Italy, Gastone in La Traviata at the Al Bustan Festival in Beirut, Count Lerma in Don Carlos for Grange Park Opera Don Jose in Carmen for Kentish Opera and Mr. Rushworth in Mansfield Park for Waterperry Opera Festival.
