Marta Menezes - Piano


Marta Menezes is one of the most promising Portuguese pianists of her generation.

Marta has several awards in international competitions in Portugal, Spain, France and Italy, including 1st Prize in the Beethoven Competition at the Royal College of Music (London, 2013) and 1st Prize in the International Piano Competition, Nice - Côte D’Azur ‘Simone Delbert-Février’ (2013).

She performs recitals regularly in countries such as Portugal, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Cape Verde and the United States.

As a soloist, she performed with the Lisbon Superior School of Music Symphony Orchestra, the Camerata MusArt, the Camerata Amicis and the Orchestre Régional de Cannes, under conductors such as Vasco Azevedo, Gareguin Aratiounian, Carlos Silva and Nicolas Simon.

Marta has premiered several solo and chamber works of Portuguese composers such as Sérgio Azevedo, André Miranda, Nuno da Rocha, Tiago Cabrita and Diogo Alvim. She started a project in partnership with the pianist Inês Andrade dedicated to the dissemination of Portuguese music for two pianos and for piano four hands.

Marta has played in master-classes for pianists Vitaly Margulis, Boris Berman, Galina Eguiazarova, Mikahil Voskresensky, Vladimir Viardo, Menahem Pressler, Gabriel Tacchino, Luiz de Moura Castro, José Eduardo Martins, Álvaro Teixeira Lopes and António Rosado, among others.

She began her musical studies at Jaime Chavinha Conservatory of Music (Minde), first with Gabriela Capaz, and later with Paulo Pacheco. In 2009, Marta finished her Degree at the Lisbon Superior School of Music, under Miguel Henriques. She furthered her studies with a Masters of Music in performance at the same institution, under the tutelage of Miguel Henriques and Jorge Moyano, completing the course with the highest grade.

Marta completed her Master of Performance at the Royal College of Music (London) in 2012 with distinction under Dmitri Alexeev, having previously studied with Andrew Ball.

In 2014, she started her Doctor of Music at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music (USA), under the tutelage Arnaldo Cohen.

In 2014, she was awarded the Silver Medal of Honour and Distinction - ‘Medalha de Prata de Valor e Distinção’ by the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon.
